Poindexter leads in campaign funds

Del. Charles Poindexter (R-Franklin County) received $4,415 in campaign contributions between Sept. 1 and Sept. 30 for his contest with Sherman Witcher in the Nov. 3 election for the Ninth District seat in the House of Delegates.

During September, Poindexter received $3,200 in nine cash contributions of more than $100, and $1,215 in 26 cash contributions of $100 or less, according to a report filed with the state Board of Elections.

As of Sept. 30, Poindexter had a balance of $19,459 in his campaign treasury, according to the Virginia Public Access Project (VPAP).

He reported $9,948 in campaign expenses during the latest reporting period.

Poindexter, who was elected to the House in 2007, began the Sept. 1 campaign reporting period with a balance of $24,993.

Witcher, who is running on the Independent Green Party ticket, has not reported his campaign contributions for the period Sept. 1- Sept. 30.

The Ninth House district includes Franklin County, Floyd County and part of Pittsylvania County.

Poindexter has received $39,152 in campaign contributions since Jan. 1, 2009. He has reported campaign expenses of $41,543. Poindexter began the year with a balance of $21,852.

Between Sept. 1 and Sept. 30, Poindexter's top campaign donors were: Ninth District Republican Party of Va, $1,000; Appalachian Power Employee PAC, $500; Virginia Beer Wholesalers Association, $400; Robert Camicia, $300; Kemper Consulting Inc., $250; Martinsville Dupont Credit Union, $250; and Russell Johnson, $200.
