ETHEL COOPER
MARTINSVILLE - Ethel Marie Cooper, 87, died Sunday, August 29.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Lucy Clements, and her husband, John Taft Cooper.
Survivors include her daughter, Evelyn M. Gentle of New York, sisters, Ruby Meadows of Rocky Mount and Lucille Holland of Rocky Mount; brother, Joe Clements of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Wanda Clements, Sharon Gentle and Felicia Gentle; four great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
The funeral will be conducted Saturday, September 4 at 2 p.m. from Morningside Baptist Church in Rocky Mount by Rev. Kirby Whifield. Burial will be in the Clements family cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.

UNION HALL - James T. Goad, 49, died Tuesday, August 31.
Survivors include his father, Floyd W. Goad Sr. of Union Hall; seven sisters, Arvilla Pettie (Joseph B.) of Martinsville, Vickie Webb (Douglas) of Rocky Mount, Patricia A. Goad of Petersburg, Debora L. Goad of Martinsville, Loretta Conner (Darryl) of Rocky Mount, Floretta Goad of Penhook, and Sylvia Price (Louis) of Martinsville; and two brothers, Wilmer F. Goad of Rocky Mount and Cornell Goad of RockyᅠMount.
The funeral will be conducted Sunday, September 5 at 1:30 p.m. from the Stanfield Mortuary Chapel by Pastor Frank E. Toney. Burial will be in the Goad family cemetery. The family will receive friends one-half hour prior to the funeral.
